I should have used more of the pink on the long side.  However, by the time I got to the long side, I had seen the entire run of Dexter and really needed to move on.  Don't get why people liked that series so much, but whatever.

A good blocking helped make this scarf a more wearable size.  Pre-soak, I had some doubts.  However, spending about 18 hours pinned to the living room rug worked wonders on it.

This is the second pattern I've made from the three pattern ebook, and, I gotta say, love.  Now I'm looking at the 3rd pattern and wondering what yarn I could use for it.  Sort of thinking handspun would work well.  Stella is the pattern for those of you who are curious and/or stalking me.  This might be a good chance for me to use some of that undyed sock yarn I've got stashed.

This is the pattern we talked about last week or something.  The one with the "interesting" comments.  As our darling Sarah pointed out, "With over 900 finished projects, I cannot imagine that the task is as complicated as some have tried to make it."  I could not agree more.

Simple straight-forward pattern.  Knit with that fancy German sock yarn.  Btw, it's a colorway that does NOT want to be photographed.  I don't blame it.  It is not neon.  It is not HOT PINK! no matter what it may look like.  It's a red-ish pink with fuchsia.  Like I stood a chance..

I understand why so many have been made over the years.  I can see making another one should the need arise because it is a fun simple pattern.  Great social-knitting pattern, I think.

Not so much words in the wild as words on paper towels in the kitchen, but it reminded me of my friend the garden goddess, so here we are.

I've been looking for a new ice pick.  The old ice pick has a bent tip.  Yes, I know.  I've been looking for a new one for a while now.  I looked again at Target because an ice pick seems like the kind of thing a girl could get at the Target.

A very nice Target employee asked if she could help me find something as I was wandering toward the check-out area.  I said ice pick and mentioned I'd just come from the kitchen gadget area.  It's not big enough to be a department.  Nor well stocked enough because they don't have ice picks.  She said they don't have them, and we exchanged confused faces. 

I lowered my voice and asked if ice picks were now considered weapons.  She also lowered her voice and said that yes she thought this may be the case.  Then she mentioned the dollar store that's across the way from the Target and, if that didn't work out, the local big deal grocery.

She also mentioned that some kitchen items seem to be seasonal.  They carry electric can openers but not in the summer.  o.O

Visits to two different dollar stores and the local big deal grocery got me nothing but frustrated... and a bottle of water.  How do we live in a world where I can buy all the booze and ammo I want but am out of luck if I need an ice pick? 

For a brief moment, I did consider getting a meat mallet while at the Raley's.  However, in my world, that really would be a weapon.  I'm starting to wonder if the lovely people at the Ace Hardware would carry ice picks but calling them is always more trouble than it's worth...

In other news...

Knitting Arroyo, and feeling sorry for the designer.  Judging by the comments page, a lot of very stupid people who may not know how to knit have tried that pattern.

I mentioned to a friend that I was knitting that pattern and she wanted to know what I thought.  It's been on her list for years but she hadn't gotten around to it.  I'm happy to report that it is a simple fairly mindless pattern...

Assuming you can read a chart, know how to purl and can follow directions.  Oh, and don't get confused by short rows.  I know that may be asking a lot for some but really it's not that big deal.  Then again, I can follow directions...

/blows off the dust

I got the sweetest note from a semi-lurker occasional commenter the other day.  Made me realize that it was more than just my best friend who missed the blog.* 

So it's been a month.  I know most of you didn't miss me because I didn't hear from you bitches.  And that's okay because I did not miss the blog.  I rarely read blogs these days.  There's a huge lack of interest on my part and, if you do that gutless stolen meme thing, chances are good I don't read you at all.  Let's be honest, I'm not missing much.  I talk to friends here and here, and who else matters when you think about it?

There was spinning for the Tour.

A lot of spinning.

I'd joined a couple of new to me teams for the Tour.  Had so much fun and actually won a prize for spinning daily.   I was the lucky winner of this pattern collection.  I need to toss the stash to find something for the first one I want to knit. 

After the Tour, however, I put away the wheel.  It's the first time since it arrived that it is living in the travel bag.  It's nice to not have the wheel sitting in a corner, pouting and trying to me feel guilty.  Yeah, not that kinda girl.

Beautiful summer days and much cooler summer nights.  It was only 106F/41C yesterday.

A lot of blissfully boring and mindless knitting, which makes for really boring blogging.  I'm in a scarf/wrap kinda mood and am loving the database on Ravelry.  Also enjoying my friends feed because I see amazing things and the occasional really bad project that reminds me that they can't all be winners.

In others words, it's been business as usual and you haven't missed much.

The Difference A Week Makes

A week ago, I was curled up in a very cold house debating whether or not I should turn the heat on.  I did because there's a limit to how good a sport I can be regarding the weather.  Today, I am hoping for a cooling trend because I really don't want another day in the upper 80s F.  Although, my real issue is the high humidity.  Hot and dry, I can do.  Hot and humid is just wrong.

Another difference from last week?  I am no longer obsessed with the crochet.  For a few days there, it was bad and slightly worrying.  However, I think I have it out of my system now.  Wanna see?

African Flower Bag

Once I figured out my gauge issues, it was clear sailing.  Still debating whether or not to add a strap.  I'm never going to use it as a purse, so I'm not sure I need one.  Also debating whether to line it or not because again not a purse.

This may be the coolest thing I have ever crocheted.  Even if it was a crown hat for about ten minutes last week.  Watching it all come together was so much fun and alonging with a wonderful friend made it even better.  Btw, she totally smoked me. 

Remember the striped socks?  I had leftover yarn and an idea...

The colours are slightly off and I found the hose but I love it.  THIS I can see taking to dinner.  It is small, soft, and a good shape.  Pondering lining.  Fast and so much fun to make.  I can almost see making a larger version for beach days but I don't have a beach and I don't go in the sun, so maybe not.

Yesterday was a little stressful.  I really needed something to do with my hands.  I came up with this...

I can totally see making these for Easter or May Day gifts.  Small and fast to make, not big enough to be FULL of candy/treats, and sort of useful once the fun is over.  It was sort of boring to make but after the African Flower Bag, I knew all too well how to make a circle with a hook.

There is also a cowl out of vintage yarn somewhere, a rant about lawyers in private practice, and a wail about missing CarrieK, who is working crazy hours to get all the taxes done in time.

Having moved on from most of it, I am now thinking about Throwback Thursday photos, why I buy wood needles that I know will break, and how to deal with an issue in my current design.  Yeah, just another Taco Tuesday.  ;^)
