Shut Up & Knit!

Slightly Busy...

 

Because it's May in the Sacramento Valley, I've been working on Split Personality.  Using the yarn called for no less.  Yes, I've been sitting under a strand of merino wool being knit with a strand of cashmere/silk.  Did I mention the big needles?  Yeah...

In other news, since I'm not fake, trying to con folks into thinking I'm something I'm not or the center of the universe, there isn't a lot to tell.  The dryer broke last weekend.  I tried to fix it but couldn't.  Therefore, last Tuesday, a new dryer arrived and the old dead one went away.  Now I'm trying to figure out why there are different degrees of dry on a dryer...

Today I fixed the shower and decided the universe really does owe me a manicure. 

Exciting, right?

I know.  No wonder all those fat jealous bitches want to be me.  *L*

Impressing Strangers 10 Minutes At A Time

While out running errands, I wandered into the Joanns with the strange layout.  A very deep and narrow space that I find slightly confusing for some reason.  I had a moment of worry when asking for seersucker because the lady I was asking made a face.  Turns out, they don't carry a lot of seersucker, which I had feared.  I think she was concerned with disappointing me.  I'm a little intense in real life.  Shocking, I know.  However, they do have something similar.  She took me to it and it was close enough.

I picked the above "floral", got a number at the cutting table and wandered off.  It wasn't much of a wait, thankfully, because there wasn't a lot to see.  The young man who called my number asked that question so many of us dread when visiting the cutting table.

"What are you going to do with this fabric?"

For once, I didn't hate the question.  I'm going to make bias tape and replace the edging on some bath towels.  One is starting to look dodgy and I'm not having it.  I told him the towels were bright green and he loved the idea.  He also seemed impressed that I would think of such a trick to extend the life of my towels and know what kind of fabric to pick.

Age, experience and the cheap frugal resourceful French/Scottish sides of the family.  Hello!

The downside to all of this?  Now I have to reacquaint myself with my sewing machine.  :?

There are days...

 

A recent sunrise.  It's been a long time since I was a vampire child living my days in the dark of night and only seeing the sun rise on my way to bed.  However, this recent morning did make me long for those days and parts of that long lost life.

I finished a sock.  Yes, a single tall-ish sock that could have been taller.  Working out how to make taller socks is going to take a few pair to figure out and I'm okay with that.  Some things should not be perfect on the first go.

However, it is always very nice when they are...

Wool/flax from Spunky Eclectic.  I started this last night and love it.  I thought I had a plan for the finished yarn but, as I spun, I'm not so sure.  The spinning will take time, and I am starting to think that I will need to see the finished yarn before really making a plan.

Slightly epic week has been slightly epic.  Go figure.

Happy Stuff

 

Heard this in the car this morning.  Instant chair dancing.  It always reminds me a certain beautiful young man.  I think it's the 'thank you, miss' that does it.  /ahem

The mug was my purchase of the week last week.  I love the shape and large size.  While I don't love it as much as my beloved mug that I dropped a couple of years ago, this is close.  Still deciding if it needs friends or not.

Spring has landed firmly on the burbs and there's no longer a point in fighting it.  My mum's purple shamrocks are blooming.  I guess thanks to the rains we've had because I can't honestly remember the last time I watered them.

I'm still knitting and hooking away.  Hopefully, there will be enough of something to show in a couple of days.  That or I'll show you the yarn for the next sock yarn hat.  Sunday is coming, ya know...

Viking Saturday

Vikings starts Season 2 Thursday.  Looks like you can watch all of Season 1 here.  (Video page starts by itself.  You have been warned!)  Knowing this, it should come as no surprise that I am spending my Saturday with the Vikings.  This is what happens when Colin Farrell doesn't return my calls.

The fabulous striped mitts are done!  They are fabulous and I kind of want to keep them.  However, they are not for me.  They will be shipped off to their new home once I have finished my current project.  The green thing of doom.

It's always the simple patterns that make my eye twitch, and this is one of those patterns, people.  I'm looking on the upside and putting my faith in the fact that I will know what I'm doing the next time I knit this pattern.

So today will be about Vikings, knitting the green thing of doom and finishing up spinning the singles on the current spinning project.  Thankfully, today is another good Saturday that is rounding out a week that ended on a high note once I was done yelling.  I like these happy quiet weekends.  I think it's the giggling with friends that does it for me and feeling lighter and brighter.

You may not have noticed but it's been rather a while.

Good news makes it all better, of course.  I would share because it's a hoot but I know that some are tired of me going on about my dead mother.  So I'll spare you.  I know too much happy makes people edgy and jealous.  We can't have that.

The sun is out.  The birds are doing their thing and I really am sorry.  If it makes any of you feel better, the paperwhites are done and gone for another year.  The early daffs are also done and I doubt there are any tulips left out there.  Damn squirrels.
