It really does run in the family. No wonder I remain single. *L*
Lolly posted a photo of a shrug and a link to the pattern in a blog post about being a cheapskate. I liked the shrug and thought my mother might like to make something like that as she's a tiny woman who is always cold. I even gave her a small ball of leftover yarn from a red scarf that I made out of that yarn.
She liked it and decided to make it. Since she was making the small, she only needed three skeins and that would be a project for less than ten bucks. This was wonderful for someone who never wants to spend more than fifty cents on a skein of yarn. She would flip if she knew what some sock yarns sell for. *L*
She claims she did a swatch, but I'm not sure I actually believe that. This is the same woman who was going to make a little cotton tee shirt style sweater and declared that making, washing and blocking a swatch was too much work. o.0
I was over there and looked at her work in progress and did a little measuring. The sleeves are 24 inches long and the whole thing is longer/wider than her back. However, she is trusting the pattern. *L* My mother is a sheep who would rather trust the pattern than think for herself. She does not want to frog it and claims to be willing to live with something too big for her. Btw, too big for a linebacker from what I can tell.
I know that having faith in your pattern is important. A lot of new knitters don't want to and there's a learning curve. However, it's equally important to be able to look at something and realize that your project just isn't working out. Currently, she's in denial. I was told that she was waiting to see what would happen when she washed it. It's plastic yarn! Nothing is going to happen in the way she means. It's not like she can toss it in the dryer and let it shrink a little like with cotton. Or felt it a bit like one can with wool.
Because she is unwilling to think outside the box, she's knitting a freakin' car cosy and doesn't know it yet.
Oh, and later on today, there will be a post about grey lace because I have to share. ::bounces::
I hope you take a picture of her car cozy when she's done. *L*
I can't wait to see the grey lace!! :D

A car cozy--how cool! hehehehe. Well, if she can knit a car cozy for 50 cents I think I will want one too--but she must knit one for a big SUV, so the cost probably would go up a bit.
:D

Hah, when I first saw the title, I thought it was a post about Ann. :p
Moms are funny that way. I'm seriously thinking about gifting my mom a bunch of yarn to clean out my stash, but I really have to wonder if she like/appreciate it.

Well (she says through all the snickering) my mother in law knit a sweater for $8 for her sister. She cut coupons for the local mall craft store from everyone's newspapers that let her buy 1 get 1 free. Then she went in and out of the store for about 8 days straight. Gotta love all of that energy put into cheapness. Er. Being frugal.
