Pattern: Peacock Tail & Leaf Scarf by Nancy Bush & The Estonians. (Wouldn't that be a great name for a band?
Yarn: Zephyr wool/silk lace weight in Ruby colorway.
Needles: US 4 Circular
Size: 14 inches wide and almost 70 inches long. (More or less.) (Give or take.)
Time Served (While Working On Something Else @ The Same Time): Started 05-09-09. Finished: 05-022-09.
Mods: Knit longer and wider than the pattern calls for. I wanted it to be something that could be worn as a wrap or as a scarf. The size I got is perfect for that. An extra repeat or two can make a world of difference.
Knit for: Claudia's MS Ride Along Thingy Raffle. (Most likely not the real name of this event.)
The Story
Claudia mentioned on her blog that she was riding again this year in the MS Society's fundraiser. Claudia seems to do this every year and, every year, she takes donations for a raffle. For every ten dollars you donate to Team Claudia, you get a chance to win one of the amazing prizes in Claudia's prize basket while donating to a very worthy cause and helping to keep Claudia #1.
This year, I've been feeling better about my lace knitting. Feeling like I sort of know what I'm doing and making pretty things that people claim to like. I decided to grow a spine and offer something lace as a prize. I emailed Claudia, fully expecting her to pat me on the head and say thanks, but no.
That didn't happen. Claudia seemed pleased with the idea. Although, she did mention NO PINK! Not that I minded, but it was fun to tease her about the pink for a bit.
I knew the pattern would come from Nancy Bush & The Estonians because I love that book (a gift from a friend) and I suddenly had a chance to knit something that I didn't have to keep. When I saw the versions of the Peacock Tail & Leaf pattern that some of my friends had knit, I knew it was the one.
I wanted to use the leftover yarn from the wrap I knit Norma. I had two little cones left from her wrap and loved the idea of sending on the good vibes to whoever got the Peacock thingy through Claudia. More good vibes when you consider that a charitable donation will get someone that lace wrap/scarf.
I emailed Norma and asked her if it would be okay and she loved the idea. She may have suggested a name for the project, but I'll never tell. Then, to make things better, I knit this project while working on a certain orange wrap for Norma. Then stopped, so I could finish the orange.
So, you see, this is not just a piece of knitting. It's lace full of the good vibes, a bit of good karma and good friendships.
And the story isn't over yet.
Now we wait to see who will win it and finish the story.
