Earlier this year, my mum had a brief stay in the hospital for a UTI.
Yes, we really are all kinds of glamorous here. Jealous, right?
Since I'm first generation out of the colonia, I was there A LOT. One afternoon, there was a great shifting around of beds and we ended up with one that had a traction thingy on it. Still not entirely sure why (that's a lie. it was attached to the bed they needed her in.), but I think the bigger mystery was the letters on the knob thingy.
After much googling, I found out that it stands for Texas Medical Industries*.
Who knew?!
One less mystery in my corner of the world. About eighty billion to go...
* Started in the 1960's, which totally explains the name/letters.

The post title had me all set for a big juicy story.
Now I'll have to make something up...

I totally understand why you found this interesting and had to tell the story. I too have spent countless hours in places I didn't want to be trying to find anything entertaining. Good catch on the TMI.

Sometimes there is nothing to do at a hospital but wonder what the heck the abbreviations on the equipment stand for. Been there. Aren't you clever for figuring it out!! I usually go brain dead when I enter a hospital...and I wanted to be a nurse at one time. Good thing that didn't turn out!

Shucks, I was waiting for a revealing story of the kind that never, ever appears on your blog. Disappointment reigns.

I remember many years ago during a time of many medical adventures and all of their abbreviations, and on my way home from yet another appointment I saw a truck. On the side of it was written EGG Products. I kept thinking, what is an E-G-G? I know about an EKG, EEG, and ECG, but not an E-G-G. I felt so silly when I realized it was the word egg and not a medical abbreviation and realized how much that stuff was taking over my life. xoxo
