Apropos of nothing...
Remember that scary lace weight I made that unfortunate scarf from? (I still haven't blocked it yet. It's been kind of cold/crazy here lately.) I plied the remaining yarn and got what you see. I do love that there's stripeyness in there. Some days, I'm really am good and don't even know it.
The very pretty pink skeins are 1141 yards of lace weight fabulousness made from the braid of merino/tencel that our Big Alice was kind enough to send me. Not bad for 4 oz, no? This was by far the best merino/tencel spinning experience I have had. The tencel did not take over the house. It was not sticking to everything and trying to take over the world. It was also not crazy fast to spin. It was fast, but not too fast. If you're a spinner, you know what I'm saying. If you're not a spinner, just smile and nod.
Our Elizabeth wanted to know what the yardage on the Panda blend yarn and I had to tell her that I didn't know. The photos were pre-soak/thwack and I had not really counted anything. Plus I don't trust the fluff. I ALWAYS count once the yarn is dry.
I ended up 489 yards of 3 ply sock yarn. This is the chunky side of sock weight yarn. It is also a great example of how I should not spin when I'm not feeling well. I feel like I failed this fluff because there should be more yardage.
The fiber wanted to be spun thin. The rayon from bamboo content, I'm sure. I went too far in the other direction to try to compensate for that. It's going to make great socks, but I'm always going to be a bit disappointed that I didn't do a better job.
Btw, this fiber wants to be a slightly fuzzy yarn. If you're going to spin it, add a little extra twist to keep it all under control. That's how I spin sock yarn, so it's not an issue for me. However, I worry about someone semi-new to spinning or new to sock spinning not really knowing when the start and being disappointed with what they end up with... and blaming the fiber.
Oh and I am SO GLAD that I filled up the car last week when gas at my cheap place was $3.47 a gallon. Today it's $3.55 over there and who knows where it will end? Of course, the upside to being a people hater is that you don't have to leave the house all that often. *L*
Happy Sunday, people!
