I think it was starting to make our Carrie a little nuts.
Plus it was giving new people the wrong impression of me and we can't have that. I am so not a lovey-dovey nicey-nice sort of a girl.

There's a blog post that is getting emailed around and I wanted to mention it here because it's something that hits a nerve with me and I'm sure with a lot of you.
I am so glad that this post was written and that word can now get out about what happened. People need to be held accountable and do what they say they do. It amazes me that not everyone know that.
I'll stop here, because, if you know me, you know what I think and can most likely write the rant for me. If you don't know me, be grateful. The ones who know me well put up with a lot and suffer for it. Just look at our poor Carrie. ;^)
As you can imagine, I'm in my usual cranky ass mood and plan on spending the rest of my day spinning, kicking puppies*, working on Lyra and wondering WTF is wrong with people. I know the answer, but it's better than pondering my next project.
Right?
Oh, and Happy Friday!
* No, not really. Just trying to be funny.

OMG I AM SO GLAD THOSE SCARVES WERE RETURNED. I got so angry just thinking about it. GAH.
Yeah, all the squishy love from CA and the evil roid rage from TX was messing with my internal compass. I felt like the whole world was topsy turvy. The ebilness is supposed to come from the WEST.

I hadn't heard about this yet but I'm glad you posted it. I can just imagine that rant you wanted to write!

Please tell me that you really just clarified the kicking puppies part for new readers. PULLLEEEZ.

Even with being the new kid, I know I can write the rant that is in your brain. It might just be a smidge more colorful language wise.

I know, you're really kicking kittens and bunnies, aren't you...
Posted by: DataGoddess | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 02:10 PM
People never fail to amaze me. And that is saying a lot.
And I think it's cute that Sairy thinks her language might be more colorful than yours. Ha!

Again confirming my hatred of people... That's crazy!

I love messing with people's minds. It's so much fun. :D
Um... I totally thought you kicked puppies for fun. Damn. You are all sweetness and light.

I wonder if she thought the red scarf project was like food for the needy- any food bank, any family will do? I hope the school didn't rip those scarves off the boys, though. It doesn't say how the scarves were taken back...
Posted by: kelly | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 02:41 PM
That is wrong. Just wrong. Glad that they got the scarves back. Some people out there are just asking to be hated aren't they? I can only imagine the backlash the LYSO got when the people that had knit/crocheted those scarves read that notice....
Posted by: Marilyn | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 02:42 PM
Oh, thank heaven that nicey nice is over with. I was getting concerned.
And WTH? People do the weirdest things with charities. No wonder the IRS "improved" their tax returns with a million questions.
Posted by: Carrie K | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 02:50 PM
WTF indeed. Kick a puppy for me, will ya? ;^)
Posted by: kmkat | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 03:29 PM
hehehee,,,, the header of your post in my google reader made me start the hehehehe and only the red scarves story stopped that,,,

Thank god that's passed - I really wondered where the real Cookie went!!! Glad to see the crankypants back.
I get why everyone's pissed, but (please, people, don't flame me - I'm just putting this out there) - was it the most evil thing anyone has ever done?
Let's not mention this at Fort Hood, mkay? Cause that's evil.
Apparently some *other* needy kids got the scarfs (if I read it right). Okay, it's not nice to switch on the knitters, and I certainly don't condone it, but there's so much other truly icky stuff to get mad about. Just sayin'.

I hear ya, Gretch. I was thinking that these kids may be needing scarves/hats/ whatevers...
but of course, it needs to be labeled as such--people do charity work because it often strikes a chord. I just think of how much college sucks, and to do it w/o family support would make it so much worse.
As for the 40 other kids, me wanna do a drive for them--and hopefully this yarn store owner can head THAT up, if it struck a chord with her.
p.s. I didn't even knit anything this year, I did a teeny donation. But it's where my heart hangs, y'know?
Posted by: kellys | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 07:05 PM
It makes me wonder if the LYS owner is a non knitter and doesn't realize how much time and effort goes into knitting a scarf.
My FSIL's sister works at one of those schools, we can blame her.
Wanna come over and thwack some yarn?

WTH? The foolish LYS owner has now lost a bunch of customers pissed at her audacity.
Posted by: Manise | Friday, November 06, 2009 at 08:58 PM
The LYS has lost the goodwill of its customers, has embarrassed a number of people and depending on far along the donations to the schools were, have disappointed other kids in need. Still, I'm curious about the other side of the story. Did someone screw up because of a lack of understanding or were they just plain stupid? I like Kellys idea that the LYS owner should replace the scarves or otherwise make a donation to the schools.

Just read about this at Norma's. Pretty much every day I look at the news and wonder WTF is wrong with people.
Posted by: Cheryl S. | Saturday, November 07, 2009 at 08:02 AM
God, I hate sitting by and reading these people wondering, and ascribing wonderful motives to this lady, without shouting out to the world what the real issue was. (and no, it was NOT NICE) And now I've gone and added fuel to the fire and murder to the mystery without being explicit, and probably making people even MORE weirded out and pissed off. But it's your blog. I am allowed to hijack it in that way, right? Hee.

Gah how I've missed your crazy bitchiness! ;)

The good thing about spending money is that most of the time, you can choose where you spend it.

I can't even begin to understand what the person was thinking - unreal. Glad it worked out though.
Hope you are having a great weekend!
Posted by: Jeanne | Sunday, November 08, 2009 at 11:15 AM
I hope your spinning and knitting are going well.
The intended misdirection of those scarves was outrageous. Why did the store owner do it?
Posted by: Angie | Sunday, November 08, 2009 at 06:32 PM
Well look at you! All back to normal and stuff!
Posted by: Bams | Monday, November 09, 2009 at 04:50 AM
WTF? The reason why I rarely do charity knitting.
Posted by: monica | Monday, November 09, 2009 at 07:47 AM
Down through the ages everything from war to flame war has arisen from the failure to utter four simple words: is this really true? That seems to have been the case here.
Posted by: Lucia | Monday, November 09, 2009 at 09:26 AM
You know, yesterday I got yelled at for not being a vegan - by someone who isn't a vegan. They just thought I should be because I don't kill flies. WTF? Glad to see you're back.
Posted by: Yarndude | Monday, November 09, 2009 at 09:59 AM
So glad to see you're getting back to normal. ;op
...not touching the scarf thing. At least, not in publick. ;o)
Posted by: JessaLu | Monday, November 09, 2009 at 06:10 PM
That's so messed up. I know the woman that writes that blog so I can just imagine how angry she was about those scarves going to the wrong place. WTF is up with people sometimes?!?
Posted by: Jessica | Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at 08:23 AM
My brain is just all kerplodey thinking about this and how it reminds me of another situation similar but not quite as nice as this a few years ago, and I think I'm going to go do something productive rather than letting this run away with the rest of my evening. Ewww...people!
