Sock Patterns for Nora
This morning, the lovely Nora talked about sock knitting in her blog. Since I have nothing for you today, I thought I would list some possible sock patterns here... for Nora and anyone else who is curious/interested.
- Crusoe. Published at Knitty.com A great pattern for those really busy sock yarns you're not sure what to do with. Seen here and here.
- Monkey. Also published at Knitty.com. Nice simple pattern that can be done toe-up or cuff down. Seen here and here.
- Spring Forward. Yes, published at Knitty.com. Another one that can be worked either way and is simple and enjoyable. Seen here and here. (Could have sworn I had knit myself a pair of those.)
- Dublin Bay. (Opens to a PDF) By Ryan of Mossy Cottage fame. On my list. Looking for the right yarn for this pattern.
- 9 To 5. By Nicole Hindes. Lovely simple pattern for a solid or semi-solid sock yarn. Think trouser socks. Sort of seen here.
- Charade. By Sandra Park. A bit like the 9 To 5 pattern, but not in a bad way. Seen here.
- Pembrokeshire Pathways. By Brenda Dayne. Another fun simple pattern that will keep your attention. Good for a solid or semi-solid sock yarn. Seen here.
- Forget-Me-Not Socks. By Fiber Dreams. Cute lacy socks. Think spring/summer. The pattern is fun and will have you paying attention without stressing you out. Seen here.
- Mad About Plaid. (Opens to a PDF) By Debi. A fun pattern that keeps you on your toes and lets you use up some of those leftovers we all seem to have. Seen here.
- Mockery Socks. By Katie Grady. Lovely pattern for a solid or semi-solid sock yarn. Simple, but interesting enough to keep your attention. Pattern photos do not do this pattern justice, IMHO Seen here. ** Link to Mockery Sock has been fixed... I think**
That's ten free sock patterns.
Is that enough?
Or do y'all want more?
I have knit all of those patterns* and can promise that none of them have any weirdness or issues.
Speaking of sock yarn, did y'all see this? If I hadn't promised myself less socks and more lace this year, I'd be poking around her Etsy shop.
Still might. "Looking" never hurts. ;^)
* I swatched Dublin Bay and realized that I had the wrong yarn.

I've knit Dublin Bay a few times and it's just the right amount of having to pay attention vs. not paying attention at all. Hope you've found the perfect yarn!

So many great sock patterns, so little time!
*blushes* Thanks for the plug!

Dublin Bay is a joy. I need to check your list out now. If you recommend it, it must be good. And, Jessica's yarn is gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing the great patterns. I've done 3 or 4 pair of Dublin Bay socks. It's a great pattern.

Oh thanks *a lot* for making my sock-making decisions that much harder. You're such an enabler! And not in a bad way. More please.
When I clicked on the mockery socks link it spit at me but I did find them here: http://www.wiredforfibre.com.au/store/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&cPath=44&products_id=175&zenid=f24d8a8df9bef7da3cff4e3ba8f2a6eb

Whoa - you did all that linking, FOR ME? You are a true friend, Ms. Cookie. These will keep me busy - and hopefully happy - for a very long time!

I'm hormonal and I'm knitting socks and I'm hating them and I want the instructions for the pink housies you made because my meds are NOT letting me figure it out on my own.
Help.

I'm rather fond of Monkey socks, but I'll bet the rest are great patterns, too...just because you wouldn't lead us astray.

I gotta disagree on the Charades. They're cute, and I do like them, but the pattern is SO simple and mindless that MY GOD WHEN WILL THEY BE FINISHED?!
ahem.
I'd forgotten about Dublin Bay, I'll have to check them out.

I will get over my sock fear! I will!

Thank you thank you THANK YOU. I made the 9-5 socks two years ago, but for the life of me I couldn't find the pattern again nor could I remember what they were called or where I found the pattern. (Yeah, the brain, not so much.) You have reunited us, and I have a skein of Dream in color Smooshy just calling out for these babies. You da best!!!! Great list!

I want more! Think thick socks ... 48 stitches or so ... heavy and warm for these subfreezing days.

ha! Fantastic work. That'll kill the next hour at work for me!

I cry. I guess in a bad way? That just as inspiration hits, so does my business. Blarg.
and what is a "bad way" for socks? They bunch? they stretch out? they make you chase after young helpful bag-boys?

Thanks for the inclusion :)
You should show off YOUR MAP socks, you never debuted them on the blog oh great and powerful test knitter!

All 10 are great knits by the look of them. The only one I have done is the monkey but I will definitely be printing off the others for later in the year. That's after I attempt to finish off all my UFO's and there is a ton of those LOL
Jessica's yarns are stunning. There isn't a colourway on there that I even slightly do not like. She has a great eye for colour.

OK. So first of all thanks so much for the sock list - I've just joined a sock club so the list will come in really handy. I've read today on another blog that it's delurking day and I put my hands up to being a lurker on your blog for a long while now. So just to say also that I find your blog a life-saver at times and it starts my day without fail. Thank you for sharing, not just your sock list but yourself too.

I actually went to the yarn shop and got stuff to start a hat. And I DID start it....crazy huh?

If I ever find the 9-5's, want a better shot? There are two shots of me modeling them on the Aug 4 post. I just spent an hour reading my June, July and Aug posts. God, the squish is sickening after July 5th. :D Why didn't you guys smack me or something. At least the squish has mellowed? Or is it just all the other shit going on?
You've given Nora a ton of things to work on. Now get Angie distracted so I have time to work on Icarus again.

Looking *IS* dangerous. As I have pointed out to my husband (repeatedly), one part of not spending money/economizing is NOT browsing the places where you will be tempted, like eBay (for him) or yarn shops (for me). Perhaps you have more discipline than he does.

Yay! Thanks for this lovely list! I'm always looking for new (to me) sock patterns, even though I already have a lot on my mental to-do list. And free is always good =)

Thanks for posting all those links. I really appreciate having this list at my fingertips, plus the magic of a Cookie recommendation.

Thank you for all the sock links, Cookie! I'm still working on Icarus, so Stacey better, too. :D I'm going to get to socks in just a little while.

Thanks for the list ;o) I'm going to do that '12 Month Sock' club thing to knit down the stash so I'm trying to find patterns...
